Sofia Sotiria Mavrou‘s short drama, laden with a family secret, unveils a tapestry of emotions as a mother and daughter delve into the wartime diary of their mother/grandmother.
Sofia Sotiria Mavrou is a triple threat. As writer, director and actress in her latest production, ‘An Impossible Secret‘, she wears multiple hats, steering the direction, anchoring the flashback sequences, and crafting a tale that unfolds with emotional depth.
Who is Sofia Mavrou?
I am an independent filmmaker and actress with no formal training in filmmaking and acting. I love the art of film as it is a very powerful means of communication. It can convey messages and emotions through images, music, movements, lighting and camera angles.
Can you tell us about your latest film project and the process you went through in bringing it to life?
‘’An imposible secret’’ is my first short film. I was inspired by a wonderful lady of Italian origin. Her dad an Italian prisoner of war was brought to Wales to work on farms during the Second World War.
What’s done is done. The past is just that–the past. We tend to look at those instances in life where something has occurred that cannot be altered, whether for good or ill, and hence must accept any ramifications associated with it.

Which writer inspires you the most?
It’s hard to choose just one, as my influences are so diverse. I grew up immersed in the works of Homer, Sophocles, Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Jules Verne, Dostoevsky, and Tolstoy, among others.
